We have been invited to play in an elderly peoples’ care home in December and so are currently putting together a far more gentle set of familiar nostalgic songs though some of the residents may well wish that we were rocking it!

We have all been away enjoying our summer holidays but are now back together gigging again. Carla, Sue and Jim were at Broadstairs Folk Week in August and were amazed by how many people came up to us in the street and in the pubs and asked why HottBoxx was not playing there this year. ‘BFW is just not the same without HottBoxx’ we heard time and time again. We will have to see what can be done next year.

We had to turn down a number of bookings this year, including Broadstairs Folk Week, due to the wrist problem suffered by Thom, our bass player. Eventually Mark, a friend of Carla’s, came to our rescue for some later gigs.

The band has been taking it easy recently due to a wrist injury incurred by our bass player Thom. Fortunately, for our first two gigs of the year, Chris Hall agreed to step in on bass. Chris is considered to be Cajun & Zydeco music’s ‘main man’ in the UK. He was instrumental in introducing the genre to this country and, as well as playing with many of the world’s top C/Z musicians, his services have been called upon to back some top international artistes including Sir Paul McCartney, Kate Bush and Bill Wyman (see http://www.swampmusic.co.uk/index.html). So it’s a great thrill that Chris has agreed to play with us.

Played at a party to celebrate the 65th birthday and retirement of Cajun UK founder member Mick Billings. After many years of support to the UK Cajun & Zydeco scene Mick and his wife June are retiring to live in Cyprus. We wish them all the best. This is a note Mick placed on the Cajun UK Message Board:
A very, very big thank you to HottBoxx for playing at my bash last Saturday, I thought you were brilliant. Thanks for all your good wishes and allowing me to join you on stage for a couple of numbers and I must say "The Walk Of Life" was tremendous and some of my workmates loved it. I think we could have some more converts. To Carla a special thank you, you have never sounded better...and to the rest of the band look forward to you playing at my 70th bash in Cyprus (Put in the diary now HA HA). Thanks to Dave for the disco a great mix of music. The 2 CD's you did for me are brill.
Continue to keep the faith people and spreading the word of Zydeco, Blues & Rock'n'roll. I love you all.

Played at a party for Terry and Sue Curtis who have been fans of the band and good supporters of Cajun UK events for many years. This is a note they placed on the Cajun UK Message Board:
Thanks again HottBoxx for an absolutely brilliant night for our Ruby Wedding anniversary. You impressed a lot of people with your music.
A big thank you also to Dave for the fabulous CD he made for us - love it!

Paul Asher left the band after many years of valuable service as bass player and musical director. Fortunately we were able to find a quick replacement in young Thom Millington who had ‘depped’ with us occasionally.

Carla and George have been songwriting again, listen out for the new numbers. Talking of new numbers, one or two old rockers are creeping in, so if you like R'n'R listen out for them.
